Mechatronics

Individual project during the pandemic. Designed, coded and built an interactive electromechanical machine entirely from cardboard.

The aim of this project was to weave design and technology to design, build and demonstrate an electro-mechanical cardboard machine that effectively integrates machine elements, sensors, actuators, and embedded processors to perform an iterative and continuous physical interaction. The project was designed, programmed and built at home, during the Covid-19 pandemic, using an Aruduino Kit and materials found in the house. The project was the final submission for the for the Gizmo module.

I created a toy for young children: a cardboard car wash model that washes, cleans and dries a toy car using four ultrasonic sensors, coded with Arduino. The toy is interactive and the child's input guides them through the four phases: setup (RFID card), washing, cleaning and drying. An iterative development was followed through synthesis, simulation, analysis and physical prototyping. The final video showcases the entire design process, from ideation through hi-fi prototyping to finalized concept and 3D render.
